KX3 Question, Transmit Test Mode

Phil Hystad-3
I am a new owner of a KX3 and it seems to me that the K3 feature, TEST for XMIT, is not supported on the KX3.  I was going to use it to adjust mic gain and also VOX controls for KX3 transmit.

So, just for confirmation, this feature does not exist or is it well hidden?

Re: KX3 Question, Transmit Test Mode

Don Wilhelm-4
Phil,

There is no TX TEST mentioned in the KX3 manual, but look for "Off-Air
Code Practice" -- If you select PTT-CW (by holding VOX) hitting the key
will generate only a sidetone (unless you tap XMIT) -- this is a direct
quote from my early manual, page 16.

The original question involved also playing back memories.  Since I do
not know whether that will also work in that 'no transmit' state, I
suggested setting the power to as low as it will go and connecting a
dummy load.

Phil, I believe you can replicate the K3's test mode on the KX3 by adjusting
the power level down to 0.0 W

This feature isn't supported on the KX3 at present. However, you can
set power to a low level, switch to ALC/CMP metering by tapping the
KEYER/MIC knob, then adjust mic controls.

Re: KX3 Question, Transmit Test Mode

Andrew Moore-3
For CW practice on the KX3, can't you just hold VOX to put the rig in PTT
mode, to effectively disable the TX? (toggle it back to VOX to enable the
TX)

Yes. I believe he was referring to voice-mode adjustments.

Don, Phil,

While that is true, I strongly recommend that you connect a dummy load
as well.  "Stuff" can happen, and Murphy says it will, so protect your
KX3 by connecting the dummy load even if it is not technically
necessarily required.

Re: KX3 Question, Transmit Test Mode

Phil Hystad-3
In reply to this post by wayne burdick
Thanks Wayne.  Yes, I was thinking of voice-mode.  If I wanted to practice my CW I would do that on the air with the hope that I would get some replies.  Always looking for that next QSO.

I did want to do all the adjustments for voice so I will turn the power down low and hook up a dummy load.  No problem there.  Although, maybe I just get some more patch cables with BNC connectors.
