Does anyone know how to test the RX I/Q signal is coming out of the radio
correctly. I used the elecraft cables trying to listen to the signal using my computer and didn't hear anything. I would like to be able to use this output in fldigi for the waterfall. And still be able to listen to CW signals, so that I can use the waterfall to tune the radio correctly. I'm remembering something about quadrature... not really sure. I'm wondering if simply plugging in a set of headphones to the port should yield audio for a good test. -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to lists+1215531472858-365791@n2.nabble.com |
Kevin,
The I/Q output is an analog two channel audio signal, but one of the signals is 90 degrees delayed from the other, hence in quadrature. If you plug the output of the I/Q port, one channel at a time into your computer mic input, you will hear a wideband audio signal. There will not be anything magic to hear. FLDIG wants the receiver's filtered audio to drive it. It develops what it needs from a mono audio input, either line or mic in. 73, Barry K3NDM ------ Original Message ------ From: "Kevin F." <[hidden email]> To: [hidden email] Sent: 1/5/2019 10:35:09 PM Subject: [Elecraft] KX3 RX I/Q testing >Does anyone know how to test the RX I/Q signal is coming out of the radio >correctly. Thanks for the prompt reply, I guess the question that I would like to answer
is, if I were to plug in to both sides of the RX I/Q port should I hear anything at all? If I shouldn't then great, if I should then I'm going to need to figure out what's going on with my radio such that I can't heard anything at all... -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

Kevin,
The RX I/Q is at a low level, and is only usable for a panadapter like the KX3. It works for those applications because the signals are 90 degrees out of phase (which is what quadrature means). For Fldigi, and other soundcard data mode applications, use the Phones output to feed the soundcard Line In. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/5/2019 10:35 PM, Kevin F. wrote: > Does anyone know how to test the RX I/Q signal is coming out of the radio > correctly. See the note I just sent you. You may have not turned on I&Q output.
That is my suspicion. 73, Barry K3NDM ------ Original Message ------ From: "Kevin F." <[hidden email]> To: [hidden email] Sent: 1/5/2019 11:42:36 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] KX3 RX I/Q testing >Thanks for the prompt reply, I guess the question that I would like to answer >is, if I were to plug in to both sides of the RX I/Q port should I hear >anything at all? See Menu section of manual. RX I/Q needs to be turned on.
RX I/Q OFF Set to ON to use the KX3’s RX I/Q jack with the Elecraft PX3 Panadapter, or with SDR (software-defined radio) applications (pg. 26). -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

I did check that the RX I/Q was enabled and still hear nothing, on my
computer, when plugged in to the RX I/Q port. I'm ordering a set of adapters so that I can put my headphones on the radio directly to see what I hear then. Thanks all for trying to help... I still wonder if I should hear anything with the RX I/Q enabled or not, it would be great if someone could answer that question. -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
Thanks ALL for the help.
I'm still getting zero audio out of RX I/Q and want to make sure that I have done my due diligence trying to figure out the issue. I'll have some adapters on their way later today for the 1/16th inch jack to put headphones on it that way I don't have to trust that my computer isn't dropping the signal from RX I/Q someplace. I'm looking at the hard step next, I haven't recently taken a backup of my radio, a full reset of the entire radio and re-alignment. I'm going to read about the steps before I commit to this however I'm not hearing the RX I/Q and there seems to be something strange happening with the CW RX audio in the 40 meter band that I'm also wondering if a re-alignment would clear up. -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
The jack is 3/32 inch or 2.5 mm.
Have you tried connecting the I/Q output to a computer and some SDR software that actually uses I/Q input? I don’t think you’ll hear much using phones. Scope should show the signal I would think. Be sure to push plug all the way into the hack. It is very stiff for the first several times. Kevin,
You are unlikely to hear anything from the headphones from that jack. Feed it into a soundcard and you should see something using a panadapter application like HDSDR or NaP3. The RX I/Q output is low level and broadband. It is not suitable for digital mode software like FlDigi. For that software, use the Phones jack. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/10/2019 12:24 AM, Kevin F. wrote: > I did check that the RX I/Q was enabled and still hear nothing, on my > computer, when plugged in to the RX I/Q port. I tried with iSDR which is made for iOS, sound card is working, RX I/Q is not
from my radio. -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

I will report back after trying some of the I/Q based softwares out there,
however I did try iSDR which is supposed to work with USB sound card, it didn't work. I'll try the windows based program tomorrow and report back. -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
Thanks for the input I'm using the suggested iMic which does have a line
input and a mic input. I'm beginning to believe that it really is that the radio is not working correctly. I'm going to reach out elecraft directly to see what I can do without sending the radio to them for the fact that I'm using it for my CWA class. -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
