Just reading the mail on what everyone expects from the KX3 and some
comments from those that have or had a K2 makes me thing that many
may decide that the KX3 does most of what the K2 did for them - in a
lighter version?
The more I am reading about the KX3 (especially if it will come with
2m) is making me think more in that direction as a replacement for
the FT-847 (without UHF). I have one of the early FT-817 and will
not part with it as it does nicely for VHF-FM utility with a 35w
amp. But I am considering selling (liquidating) my FT-847 for seed
cash to add 222 & 432 transverters for my K3.
The KX3+2m+KXPA-100 might make a killer mobile, and might work well
with the existing FT-817 for use VHF/UHF duplex satellite use, thus
retaining a capability that would be lost with selling the
FT-847. Of course K3/KX3 might also work well with addition of VHF
and UHF transverters for duplex crossband use? The KXPA-100 would
also work with the K3/10.
One last possibility is using the KX3+2m as a IF radio for hill-top
portable use on microwave. My FT-817 was specifically bought for
that function. One question will be if the form-factor will fit into
my portable 10-GHz station (fits in a Pelican case).
Side note: recent chatter on another reflector dealing with eme
problems that folks are having trying to use Flex radios is
confirming that I made a wise choice when I ordered my K3/10. The
K3/10 interfaces beautifully with my transverters.
