In response to a few questions on this topic:
The KX3 has a 4-circuit 3.5-mm jack, allowing for UP/DN and PTT controls as well a mic audio shield ground. The MH3 has a matching plug. However, the mic jack can also be used with mics having a 3-circuit (stereo) plug. These will not provide PTT or UP/DN controls, but can still be used with VOX or the XMIT switch (equivalent to PTT). Two menu entries are provided for mic configuration: one to turn bias on/ off and another to turn the UP/DN buttons on/off. Heil headsets with two stereo plugs (one for stereo receive audio, the other for the mic) can be used. Generic computer headsets with these two plugs will also work. There are very small, pivoting mics available from places like Fry's that have a 3-circuit plug. These are compatible with the KX3's mic jack, too, and in fact allow you to use the KX3 like an HT (in a pinch). We'll expand our list of compatible mics over time. 73, Wayne N6KR ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Ok next question. Will you be selling the heil headphones, or is the one already on the site compatible with the configuration?

Thanks, Wayne.
There are also small "gooseneck" type microphones that terminate in a 3.5 mm 3-conductor right angle plug. These are very inexpensive. Search eBay for 3.5mm mic for examples. One of these could probably be used on the KX3 in a desktop configuration. 73, Bruce, N1RX -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Wayne Burdick Sent: Thursday, December 29, 2011 11:23 AM To: [hidden email]; Elecraft Reflector Subject: [KX3] KX3 mic jack *will* work with other mics/headsets having a regular stereo plug In response to a few questions on this topic: The KX3 has a 4-circuit 3.5-mm jack, allowing for UP/DN and PTT controls as well a mic audio shield ground. The Heil Proset-K2 works with the KX3 and is already available on our
website. We'll look into the Traveller and others. In either case you would use the KX3's XMIT switch to do PTT. 73, Wayne N6KR On Dec 29, 2011, at 8:27 AM, [hidden email] wrote: > Ok next question. These should work. You'd just set up the MIC BIAS menu entry as
required, and set MIC BTN to OFF. Wayne, the Heil headsets I have (Pro Set Elite and Pro-Set Plus) have 2-circuit (mono) plugs on the mic element, which hook into my K3 via a Heil AD-1 8-pin adapter. Will those work as is into the KX3, or is a 2-circuit to 3-circuit adapter needed?

I believe the original question was in regards to the Yamaha CM500, and
with Wayne's assurance that a 3 circuit jack will work, then the answer is YES - just plug in the MIC plug of the CM500 and it should work. Use the XMIT switch for PTT or use VOX - no adapter necessary. If one wants a PTT switch, the adapter box I mentioned earlier would be required, or some other form of PTT input such as the serial port control. 73, Don W3FPR On 12/29/2011 11:22 AM, Wayne Burdick wrote: > > In response to a few questions on this topic: > > The KX3 has a 4-circuit 3.5-mm jack, allowing for UP/DN and PTT > controls as well a mic audio shield ground.
