In response to KX3 owners who wish to utilize high duty digital modes and who find the factory heat sink a little light, for those KX3 owners who are long winded and are being reminded by their radios powering down, and for anyone looking for a little added bling to add to their already tricked radio, I am offering a freshly designed external add on heat sink. Feel free to discuss the merits of my offering on the forum, but contact me directly for pictures and orders at fsmeier(at)telus.net Cheers, Fred, VE7FMN

Your response has been gratifying. I am now taking pre-orders for the next run of heatsinks, if interest continues. Fred, VE7FMN, fsmeier(at)telus.net

I've installed Fred's heat sink on my KX3. It
meets my criteria for adding cooling to the KX3: * Is cosmetically attractive (in the black finish); and if anything adds to the rig's appearance * Does not require any mods to the basic KX3 (like drilling more holes or removing the speaker) * Requires no additional power supplies (to power a fan) * Is very easy to install * Allows the KX3 to be returned to its original state with a minimum of effort, should that need arise. I recommend it highly. 73, Phil W7OX On 4/3/14, 12:52 PM, fredem wrote: > Your response has been gratifying. I am now taking pre-orders for the next > run of heatsinks, if interest continues. Fellow Hams, One of you wanted me to name my heatsinks. They have now officially been christened Cooler KX . The first production run is fully subscribed and the final in stock heatsink is on it's way to Sweden in 2 days(04/07/14). Pre-orders are being taken to gauge if there is further interest. The next batch could be done within two weeks if there are at least 10 interested hams willing to commit with me. Sorry there is no website, no credit card service, no hype, no personal engraving. I want to keep these affordable and made in Canada. Cheers, Fred, VE7FMN

Thanks for the pre-orders. We are now in production and should have heatsinks available for shipping beginning the week of April 21. Uncoated natural heatsinks are available for immediate ordering now. Thanks for your support, Fred, VE7FMN

I just received notification from the powder coater that your CoolerKX heat sinks are ready for pick-up. Those of you who wrote me asking to be notified when they were ready to ship- the time is now. FYI, there is only one uncoated unit still available at this time. Cheers, Fred.

Thank-you for your support. The last of the supplemental heat sinks of the current production is on its way to Sweden. I am now accepting pre-production orders for the next generation of Cooler KX heat sinks. Cheers, Fred.

Good Evening Class. There is an offering on ebay for a "Canadian made" heat sink that supposedly fits on your KX3s. This offering features pictures that I posted to the Yahoo Groups forum. This is not an offering for Cooler KX but is a blatant counterfeit. You may email me directly to save bandwidth. Thank-you for your loyalty. Fred.

Sorry for the space this takes.
I need to clear a few items up just so we are clear: I have never advertised or pretended that Cooler KX is anything other than a very well made replacement/supplemental heat sink for the KX3. The Cooler KX web page is very clear that the heat sink is not necessary for every KX3 installation. I make it quite clear under what circumstances it would be advantageous to have a Cooler KX installed. I have never implied that Elecraft have given me their blessing, nor have I ever advertised this as an Elecraft part- as the ebay ad implies. I have never suggested that I would not accept a return as the counterfeiter feels need to do- I do not need to say such a thing as your satisfaction is absolutely assured. My friends and customers can speak toward the product, my service, my integrity, my interest in their satisfaction. The photos are of my personal radio- posted to the sellers ad without my consent or permission. Here is the most significant clue that this is not authentic- all of those who asked and some even suggested that I do it- I said it then, and I say it again now- The Cooler KX will never be offered on ebay or any other discount online or bricks and mortar reseller by me. I only deal with real licensed amateurs, worldwide. The transaction transpires directly between two hams. I inspect and hand wrap each Cooler KX that leaves my kitchen counter. Y0o may check out what I say about the Cooler KX at: www.ve7fmn.ca With best regards, 72/73, Fred, VE7FMN |

This morning two matters were brought to my attention, that require your input to give me direction:
1. The matter of Cooler KX color in summer deployments especially in very warm areas like Texas, Florida, the Mediterranean countries. I have already manufactured prototypes of a Cooler KX-T for tropical, desert, and any other high heat environs. The question that was asked this morning was whether I would consider offering the heat exchanger in White Powder coated finish. It depends on your response whether this could fly. Who would order a white heat exchanger? as an alternative, would a flat plate machined to fit the mounting holes be of interest? This could be coated white. In addition to shading the heat exchanger, it would change your open fins into a ducted design further improving the heat removal by slow low pressure convection. It would be removable for show and tell. 2. I was asked to see if there was interest in having me provide custom cut GapPad heat transfer pads for those of you who dislike heat transfer grease as much as I do. You may discuss this on the forum and also email me directly. Thanks, Fred, VE7FMN |
Hi Fred,
A White version wouldn't interest me. The GapPad heat transfer pads do, I dislike heat transfer grease :-P Kind Regards, Eddy ON4AEY Op 18-mei-2014, om 23:06 heeft fredem [via Elecraft] <[hidden email]> het volgende geschreven: This morning two matters were brought to my attention, that require your input to give me direction: |
