I also had some distorted audio reports on my transmitted SSB signal
when I first got my K3. I finally narrowed it down to the fact that I
had it connected to my computer (RS-232 for sure and I might have been
feeding the receive audio into the computer sound card as well). I
made a K3 chassis to computer chassis bonding strap using some RG-8
braided shield. I started out with the strap being about three feet
long and kept shortening it until the distortion totally went away at
about 12 inches long (verified using a second battery powered rig to
listen to my own signal).
So the first thing I would do is make sure all of your gear adheres to
proper bonding practice.
