Hi friends!
Any of you using the K1 with an MP-1 antenna? I do not hear much with this antenna! Sometimes just nothing!!!! What do you use as a portable antenna with the K1? Yves, I use either a homebrewed Buddipole: http://www.qsl.net/w3ff or a homebrews PAC-12 http://www.njqrp.org/pac-12/index.html I like both. 73 de Larry W2LJ _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hi Yves,
How about a Pac-12 Portable antenna. I use a Pac-12 that I made myself. It's a good portable antenna and easy to construct. Here is a web pointer: http://www.njqrp.org/pac-12/ I've worked quite a number of stations on 40, 30, and 20. (QRP levels.) Also, take a look at: http://www.qsl.net/hfpack/antennas/shootout2001.html#vertical I am also considering making a longer telescoping upper section with a little more overall length. 73, Chris Yves Dussault wrote: > Hi friends! > Any of you using the K1 with an MP-1 antenna? > I do not hear much with this antenna! > Sometimes just nothing!!!! > What do you use as a portable antenna with the K1? > > Yves Dussault-VE2ATD > Laval, QC, Canada > _______________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Post to: [hidden email] > You must be a subscriber to post to the list. > Subscriber Info (Addr. I was able to make many contacts as far away as Tunisia and UAE. Tuning the coil of the antenna can make quite a difference (I use the Tenna-Dipper from <http://www.4sqrp.com>. More than 30 years of playing with portable antennas, often in side by side comparisons with vertical antennas, has shown me that even high-dollar verticals without very good ground planes (the usual case in temporary installations) provide grossly poor performance in comparison to a $5 dipole, even when that dipole is tuned for 40m and less than ten feet above ground. I think that the reported success of short loading-coil vertical antennas with jury-rigged ground systems simply shows that contacts can often be made even with the worst of antenna designs. 73, Mike / KK5F _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I completed my K-1 earlier this spring. If you're getting very little, I would be inclined to suspect the radio (or even the antenna plug) rather than the antenna. I can put 15 feet of hookup wire up a tree in Toronto and get "acceptable" reception ;-}. If you can't pick up signals with a piece of wire over a tree, take a look at the radio. In my case, I had great reception right from the start on the lower bands, but nothing on 20M and 15M. Turned out to be a construction error on my part.
