Good morning all,
I'm trying to get my head around the usefulness of linking main and sub VFOs outside of diversity mode. I think I understand Arie, PA3A's application (pretty neat idea): You have Main and Sub on different antennas and there are times when working a pileup you would like to listen in a direction other than where the majority of callers are from. Say from C6 I might be running Eu but have the possibility of mults calling in from Asia. Arie's slick scheme allows both ears to switch to the Asia antenna on the Sub receiver while still transmitting on the Eu antenna. Neat. What other slick applications are out there for linking both VFOs without going into diversity mode? Fred,
Here are two uses for VFO linking w/o diversity. I'm sure there are others. Single SDR/panadapter/skimmer on VFO B IF. During everyday operation linking the VF0's allows display of what's on VFO A centered on VFOA frequency. The only other alternative would be an a/b switch or a second SDR + additional sound card for VFOA. I've been toying with that idea but $$ and no more slots on MB says no. Another use is when you want a permanent S+1 or S+5 split while tuning for DX. Link and set VFOB +x up. 73 de Brian/K3KO On 3/5/2013 13:00, Cady, Fred wrote: > Good morning all, > I'm trying to get my head around the usefulness of linking main and sub > VFOs outside of diversity mode. > I think I understand Arie, PA3A's application (pretty neat idea): > You have Main and Sub on different antennas and there are times when > working a pileup you would like to listen in a direction other than > where the majority of callers are from. One other possible use of VFO LINK may be amateur satellite linear
transponder use. 73, Terry K4RX Fred, Here are two uses for VFO linking w/o diversity. Fred,
Sometimes I will set both VFO's to the bottom of two different bands, say 20 and 15 and then link them so as I tune up the band(s) looking for un-spotted DX I can tune both at once. Brian,
Can you explain what you mean by "S+1 or S+5 split"?
