I am thinking about getting a LP-PAN for my K3. I
wonder what others think about it? I had a SDR-1000 and really liked the
panadapter feature. If you have one please let me know what you
think.
Thanks

Go for it Dave. I also had a SDR1000 for years and
replaced it with the K3 and LP-Pan. I think the K3 and LP-Pan make for a much
better package. After all you can take the K3 out of the shack and operate
portable, or where ever you want, and in the shack it is like having two
different radios. I'm currently using my re-cycled from my SDR1K
setup Delta-44 soundcard, but working on getting a 192k bandwidth card
working with my K3. If you miss your pan-adapter you will be more then happy
with your new setup. You also won't find a friendlier group to exchange
information with then here or on the LP-Pan group....

No experience of other panoramic displays but I think the LP-Pan is
superb with the K3! 73,Deni F5VJC K3 325 DAVID LEDUC wrote: > I am thinking about getting a LP-PAN for my K3. I wonder what others > think about it? I LOVE my K3 / LP-PAN combination; as mush as I like the K3, the one
thing that I felt was missing was the panadapter, and it works very well. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. 73 de Dave, W5SV DAVID LEDUC wrote: > I am thinking about getting a LP-PAN for my K3. Dave -
You'll need a sufficiently powerful PC, and be willing to load and configure several other programs on it. My PC, a five year old Dell 4550 (2.5 GHz CPU, 1GB RAM is only semi-useful for other functions when I've got all the LP-PAN related software running, and that's with an internal sound card. When I tried the setup with the E-MU 0202 external sound card, the CPU went to 100%, and the PC was useless.
You'll also need to be able to dedicate sufficient screen real-estate to the display, which include not only the band scope, but rig control features which you may or may not use.
I'm planning a PC upgrade for 2009.

I found that the HRD connection to the K3 was slow using LP_BRIDGE, but improved very much with the direct connection to HRD. When running the two my CPU is at between 35% and 45%. The screen real estate is as you say, but unless logging with HRD I keep PowerSRD in from and to the side so I ca click on HRD to do logging. LP-Bridge should be just as fast, and supports more functions in PowerSDR than does HRD, including automatic IF offset tracking of 5-pole filters and DSP shift. You may have had a config issue, an early version or an LP-Bridge / K3 firmware version mismatch.
