I am in the process of trying to decide which new transceiver go purchase, sometime around Christmas time. I have one particular overriding requirement in considering the various rigs. I am totally blind, and good access to the controls, data, and menus is obviously mandatory. There is a box available now that connects to the K-3 in some fashion, that offers speech output to the blind operator. I am investigating further as to what is actually spoken, and the results of my investigation will be an important factor in making my ultimate decision. Frankly, one of the clear disadvantages of the K-3 from my personal perspective, is its 100 watt output. I own an amp that requires 200 watts to drive it to full output, and I will shortly have another. The 100 watt limit is not a fatal “flaw,” but it is a factor.
When I am closer to making my final decision, and if I have concluded that a K-3 makes the best sense for my particular circumstances, then I will certainly contact you.
