Listening for QRP on 14060 in Iraq

Mike Czuhajewski
I have no idea if he's using Elecraft equipment or not, but here's a
chance to work Iraq with yours :-)  Forwarded by request--

Hi Mike,

I am looking for QRP stations on 14.060 which I monitor almost daily
0300-0500Z.  Would love to give YI out to Qrp stations. I also will be
on at night here 1530-1730Z.  Sundays here I will stay on a little
longer until about 0700Z.  I will be on the air until 12 December then
go on leave.  I will return early January and will operate at least
through February and possible the first week or two in March.  I will
patiently make every effort to hear your call so don't give up.  It
took
me 10 minutes to get a correct call from a station in Poland running
500
milliwatts. QSL Manager is N2OO.  Good luck to all.

[QRP ARCI webmaster G4GXL reports that this is the 3rd QRP ARCI member
to operate from Iraq.]

Re: Pops and clicks on send

Stephen W. Kercel
Fellow Elecrafters:

I've developed an apparent problem with my K2.

When I send CW in the QRO mode, I hear a lot of pops and clicks in
the sidetone and a loud pop when I stop sending.

When I'm in QRP mode this does not happen.

When I'm in QRO mode, it happens on all bands, whether I use a dummy
load or a real antenna

It is very loud on 80 m barely audible but recognizable on 10 m and
generally decreases in strength with increasing frequency.

The problem did not show up until a week or two ago, and then
happened only occasionally. Just today it stared happening all the time.

I do not know if I have clicks on my transmitted signal. Nobody has
complained about key clicks on the air.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

73,

Steve Kercel
AA4AK

RE: Pops and clicks on send

Steve,

Verify that the t-r menu is set to 8r hold. To check the setting, tap MENU
and locate t-r by turning the
VFO knob or pressing the BAND+ or BAND- buttons. Hold MENU to enable the t-r
function, then tap
DISPLAY to toggle between 8r normal and 8r hold. Be sure 8r hold is
selected, then tap MENU
twice to exit the menu function.
