Little help?

Ken Bessler-2
I'm working on K2 #4913 and I'm getting "INFO 080"
on startup. No relays click, either. I've been working
with Scott at Elecraft and we've replaced U1 & Z5 on
the rf deck plus U6 on the control board. No luck. All
voltages and resistances involving these devices check
out except for Z5, which is dead. I'm not hearing anything
on 4 mhz, either.

I screwed up during install by adding components for the
ssb board while building the K2. The manual said if I had
those components on hand, to go ahead and install them.
So, I did. I should have built the basic K2 first THEN added
the ssb board. D'oh!

Now I'd like to UN install the SSB board or at least
bypass it to try to isolate the error message. Can anyone
tell me what to do to do this?

Ken

FWIW you might want to check that you have mot accidentally swapped the 4
meg and 5.??? meg xtals on the control board...from memory as I am away from
the K2 manual, the error means that the microprocessor on the Control Board
cannot talk to the one on the one on the RF Board. I had accidentally
swapped the xtals and it took me a while to find the error. Not being able
to hear the 4Mhz xtal on a shortwave receiver pointed me to the problem.I
swapped them over and the problem was cured.....Hope this helps...Steve
