What are your feelings on "Log Book of the World" LoTW? I think it is the
way of the future. I just wonder how many are using it now. 72 Brent WB4X _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I'm not using it because I'd rather have a QSL. At least with EQSL you get a
QSL card altho ARRL does not accept them. I'm not using it. I don't actively pursue awards, and it isn't an
electronic QSL exchange, so I'm not interested. I do find it fun to receive QSLs in a couple of hours to a few days of making the contact, without all the hassle of filling out manual cards, the cost of printing and postage and the delays sending cards through the bureau, so I'm a big fan of the eQSL system. 73, -- Julian, G4ILO. It's great to go online and receive more than 100 confirmations without ever sending a paper QSL. I love LOTW, and wish everyone would use it. I'm happy to send cards to those who need or want one, but I'll never have the time to QSL 100%. I'd far rather spend my time operating, studying, doing research, building stuff, mentoring others, etc. Jim K9YC _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Why QSL 100%?
I answer all QSL's that I receive with a paper QSL in an envelope, although there are times I grumble when a station 1000 miles away asks for the fourth QSL for our fourth QSO... I send a QSL to a new country, or in recognition of a special QSO. About one in ten includes a letter about what we were talking about - the local town, the country, a new rig, etc. - and maybe some pictures or sketches or schematics. Some long term letter swapping has ensued with many hams over projects, and I found myself being mentored by some pretty neat ops at times. That's how Doug DeMaw, W1FB, and I became friends via snail mail some years ago. My only regret what that we never got an eyeball QSO before he became an SK. I guess for those who QSL for all sorts of awards - every grid square, all call signs containing a number, etc. - some sort of automated system is useful because a confirmation is wanted for just about every QSO. But for me, an electronic QSL is about as interesting as QRN. Ron AC7AC -----Original Message----- ...I'm happy to send cards to those who need or want one, but I'll never have the time to QSL 100%. I send out a lot of paper cards, particularly for new countries and mode-countries (direct) as well as new band-countries (via bureau). So far I have one country (ZC4) with a LOTW confirmation but no card received yet. As I approach a country total of 300, it gets a bit harder in any case, but I'll take whatever I can get. Here are my stats, consistent with what others have found:
You have 2,343 QSO records You have 260 QSL records That's roughly 10%. And these represent only 28 countries. I did the WAS and DXCC thing with regular cards. I have no idea how long it will take to get 100 DXCC entities to QSL via electronic means. No time soon, though. LoTW's interface is, well, boring. No pictures, no comments, no interaction at all. It is like reading an accountant's ledger. eQSL, on the other hand, lets you interact with folks. If you've got time skew, the other fellow can say "wrong time" or "wrong band"; on LoTW, it just silently fails to match. I do all three but only get the thrill from the paper cards. I QSL direct when the other fellow allows it. I pay through the nose but get a card in good condition and, usually, a cool stamp on the envelope. Now that the KX1 is alive, I'm planning to do it all again with QRP and CW. Again again! Hope this answers your question. 73! -- Scott (NE1RD) B. I think it is absolutely great. I have over 17,000 contest QSOs in LoTW. My biggest complaint is that there aren't more QSOs uploaded, especially from DX stations. Getting a certificate is a heck of a lot of trouble, especially for DX stations, but well worth it.
