Looking for a K2 builder w/ short lead time...

Steve Kallal
Hi,

I am seriously considering getting the K2. However I am that good with a
soldering iron. Are there any builders out there who can start soon and are
reasonably priced. I will start will the basic K2 CW only wo/ the amplifier.

I might consider building it myself if there are any Elmers in or near
Orange County, CA who could bail me out if I screw up.

The Elecraft support guy, Gary, is excellent.  I had the same concerns, and a couple
of times I had a sinking feeling that maybe I'd never get it right, but Gary bailed me
out over the web with close-up pictures of problem areas, and I now have a fine little
radio that I built from a kit.

I encourage you to take the plunge.  Get the RIGHT TOOLS, build slowly and carefully,
and savor the experience.  You'll lose something irreplaceable if you have someone
else build it for you.

I recommend obtaining access to a serious desoldering tool like the Hakko 808.  I
ended up buying one.  I built my KX1 with a spring-loaded plunger model.

Try a little mini-kit or two to help you decide and gain experience.

If worst comes to worst (and you've built the rig with the appropriate solder),
Elecraft will fix your radio for a flat fee that isn't too onerous.
