Loose KIO3 I/O Module?

nz8j
Hi,

I just purchased an  K3 from another ham and noticed when I was hooking
things up that the KIO3 I/O module seems to be very loose. ( the plug-in
jacks move up and down quite a bit and are very loose).
Is this a normal condition?  There doesn't appear to be any support for
this module other than the friction fit of the pins plugging into the
KIO3 mother board. I haven't noticed any abnormal operation, I was just
curious if this is normal after the K3 has been used a while, (this one
is about 18 months old)  or something that I should look into further.

Thanks
Tim

Tim,

Yes, there is some movement to the KIO3 3.5mm jacks.  It is not much and
in the extreme should be limited by the holes in the panel (the front of
the jacks extend through the holes in the panel.  If your jacks do not
extend through the panel, then your panel is mounted incorrectly and
should be fixed, but otherwise it should be OK for them to move a bit.
The body of the jacks do make contact with the panel and that does
reduce the motion a bit.

You might check the 1 1/4 inch standoffs - there should be no lockwasher
between the board and the standoff (the lockwasher goes under the screw
head).

FWIW, my KIO3 inputs are snug with no movement.  Check the assembly as Don
suggested; something doesn't sound right if you're experiencing significant
lateral movement.
