Set TXEQ as follows: Three lowest bands max cut (-18 dB), fourth band -6
dB, two highest bands +3 dB. Turn COMP all the way down, then set Mic
Gain per the manual. NOW, turn up COMP, set the display meter to read
Comp, and while to talk like you would on the air, increase COMP until
you see about 10 dB of COMP on the meter on voice peaks.
Now get some signal reports from "good" listeners. Tell them to listen
with their widest IF filter setting. Tell them you DON'T want "warmth"
or "fullness," you want a signal that will cut through QRM an noise, but
still sound pleasant. Depending on your mic and your voice, you may want
to use more or less cut of the 4th band, and a little more boost of the
top two. Don't go higher than 6 dB.
