Fellow Elecraft owners,

It seems that about every 6 months or so I make my post to the list.
My mail rules would work very well if everyone would use the suggested
format for the subject line.  I quote:

4b. When emailing about a specific rig or option, please add the
rig/option name(s) to the first part of your email subject line. (K1,
K2, K3, KX1 etc.) This will be a huge help for those experiencing
email overload and will allow automatic filtering based on subject
line.

Examples:

"Subject: [K3] Filter Options"
"Subject: [KX1] How to use ped portable?"
"Subject: [XG2] Wow! Its a big help.

My apologies for the interruption and bandwidth.  Back to the DELETE
key.

Hello everyone!
I have a K3/HRD question:
When using the DX cluster and the BandMap (the one with the vertical band display and all the call signs on the right of it) i'm able to switch bands by double-clicking on the spot in the cluster window. No matter what band the K3 is presently on.
But if i try to do the same by clicking on the BandMap call signs - i can only do that if the K3 is on the same band as being displayed on the BandMap screen.
If the K3 is on 20 meters and i'm looking at the BandMap screen for, say, 15 meters and i try clicking on a call sign - K3 clicks, trying to switch to that band and then clicks right back to where it was before.
Is that by design?
Anyone else notice that?

Again, i can do this from the DX Cluster view by double-clicking on a spot. And K3 will switch to whatever band the spot was on.
But from the BandMap view I can only change frequency if the band matches that of a K3.

Good Weekend All,

Don't have easy access to search the archives, so at risk of a dup, here
is a "finding" from setting up the KX3, SignaLink with the KX3
Tigertronics made cables, and DM780. HRD works flawlessly with Elecraft
KXUSB here, but...

Using the little paper instruction insert that came with the SL to KX3
cables from Tigertronics, it was implied that the KX3 menu entry for
MicBtn was to be in PTT Up.Dn. Well, that is apparently backwards. The
system behaves normally if Mic Btn is OFF, and when set as instructed in
the little sheet, the outgoing data string is transmitted in your
selected mode, then the SL unkeys (as it should), but the KX3 stays in
transmit.

When the KX3 is set as the TigerTronic folks suggest, I assume the SL
vox relay was being "overruled" by the TX command by KXUSB control
because tapping the XMIT button on the rig would drop the rig back into
receive. With PTT set OFF, the SignaLink VOX circuit has proper control.

Had me stumped for a minute.. hope this helps someone setting up in the
future.

Jack,

Another possibility is that you have DM780 set to supply PTT via HRD and
HRD is issuing a CAT command to the KX3 to go into transmit.  If the
Signalink PTT is also used, things can become confused.

There are several other possibilities such as VOX being on and set to a
value that is staying set on from whatever low level noise is on the mic
cable from the SL.
