Long ago, I actually cut plates of 0.25" steel and bolted them beneath
the front bottom cover of my K3s so they wouldn't move when the front panel buttons were jabbed. Once the subreceivers were added, the combined weight is just about perfect, as long as the cleaning crew (me) dusts the shack occasionally. Licking my fingers & wetting the rear feet and the rubber part of the front bail also keeps my rigs in place without any more exotic chemicals or devices. Better than DU at 19.1gm/cm cube is Tungsten at 19.25gm or Gold at
19.3gm. (Densities from Wikipedia) A Gold bottom cover would make a really fully loaded K3. Worth a bit too. I got some stuff at Lowe's made by DAP. It is called "Blue Stick." I
took a small amount and rolled it into a ball then stuck it to each foot. I can now press the power button and jack in and out the headphones without chasing my radio around the shelf. Thanks for all the advice. 73, Joel - W4JBB ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Perhaps a firmware enhancement to adjust the "weighting"...

There was discussion earlier about advantages of a KX3 v a K3. Even
though the KX3 is much lighter, it shouldn't slide when pressing buttons, since it is mostly a vertical press. I will, however, need to wait until I acquire one to verify the advantage. 73, Rick K7MW > Perhaps a firmware enhancement to adjust the "weighting"... > > 73, > Drew > AF2Z > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Bob,
I had forgotten about that option. I have a subreceiver in my K3, and it certainly doesn't move around on the desk like it used to. Even better, it will certainly help Elecraft's sales, if everyone buys a sub for their K3. A brilliant suggestion. 73, -- Dave, N8SBE > -------- Original Message -------- > Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Make the Feet "Stickier" > From: Bob Wolbert <[hidden email]> > Date: Wed, March 14, 2012 3:59 pm > To: [hidden email] > > <snip> > Once the subreceivers were added, the > combined weight is just about perfect, as long as the cleaning crew (me) > dusts the shack occasionally. > <snip> > > Regards, > > Bob Wolbert > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
