Maybe not tonight! (Ken Alexander)

Gil WA5YKK
Ken;

I'm a little amazed at the mud slinging, one-upmanship of that group, too. My Elmer, Towne Conover, W1QLT, likely  SK by now, told me to never stop learning, use my licenses as a vehicle to learn more, and pass it on, "Finest hobby in the world!".
Take a long look at the Heil microphones, dial up the company, and send an email off to their customer service. Bob Heil and his group will bend over twice backwards to answer any questions, right down to the pinouts on the mike connections, and the Elecraft folks are outstanding for their help, too.
Remember one factor, that the idea started off with a QRP CW rig, so anything beyond that is icing on the cake. If I can get my one QTH cabin in "inspection order", I'll set up all my different keys, then just go nutty over CW again, get away from voice mode - since Morse is a challenge to become fluent in, even if you've been away for awhile. (Ever heard anyone use "four letter words" -Totally illegal for hams!- on CW?)

Well, I was all set to jump in with a question about microphones and my K2, but the atmosphere around here seems a little too poisonous to be asking for help.  Maybe some other time.  I'll just keep using CW for now...

Hi Ken,

Welcome to the cw... although, I must admit, that I don't agree that you should feel that you "have" to.. it is unfortunate that some folks impose that sort of feelings on others. Now.. with you doing cw... have a blast, there are some of us that don't do phone, much at all.. shoot.. I find my mic, once a week.. mostly.. sometimes not, for all of 20 maybe even 30 minutes.... never more. The rest of the 5 - 8 hours that I am on, it is with the bandpass down to the 700 cycle width.. (yea, I know it is now called Hertz, but I don't want a car driving through my rx) and most of the phone guys find it really hard to get through that... no.. I don't fuss with them much.. only the very few that I know that will actually answer a cw response in their passband, and that doesn't happen often. I am usually way to busy having a whole lot of fun, with cw, finding nice folks that can and do offer a good conversation, usually starting with the station, and extending to the family, and sometimes to things like the news.. or not news...

Lots of fun, with talking with my fingers, to folks that range from every walk of life, and even without sunspots, a wide range of geography. So, turn it on and tune it up, come join the party... the waters fine... or the cw's a blast!!

C U on the air, soon!

(let's talk about credentials on the air...k?.. oh.. that means I need to find some?)

Re: Maybe not tonight! (Ken Alexander) [END OF THREAD]

Guys  - This thread and its related ones were ended last night. Please
respect that.  Mud slinging and chastising someone for asking a question
are in direct conflict with the list guidelines.

Lastly, questions of all technical levels and expertise are warmly
welcomed here. As my father always told me, there are -no- stupid
questions. I took his advice to heart and I frequently asked 'stupid'
questions in school. The net result was that I ended up a lot smarter :-)

It takes much more courage to ask a question than to denigrate one for
asking it. We want to encourage learning and collegial intercourse here.
Please respect that when you are tempted to chastise someone for asking
a 'stupid' question or to one-up them.

The only way for Elecraft (and Ham Radio) to survive long term is
through the enthusiasm of existing and especially newer (and less
technical) hams.  Let's remember were here to have fun and to learn. Its
a hobby, remember?
