Mic connector confusion

n8ewy
I was attempting to order a rascal glx today to attempt to try some RTTY and
PSK31 and the like.  They were most rude and treated me like an idiot for
calling them instead of emailing.  I didn't see the note on their site to
email for "tech support.  I didn't really know what to ask anyway if I did
email.

They kept asking "how is your mic connector configured?"  Is it 8 Pin? (I
knew it was 8 pin, but even after looking back at my manual I couldn't
figure out exactly what to say as far as "how it was configured".  I saw the
chart showing what number connector did what.  I wired it for the Heil
Proset2 and that is what I am using.

My question:   what do I say the next time I'm asked (politely or not) How
is my Mic configured?

(Kenwood, TenTec, YAESU FT-1000"D" etc.)

RE: Mic connector confusion

Don Wilhelm-3
Dohn,

The question that they asked was quite proper - refer to the wiring that you
did on the K2 mic configuration header for whatever answer you should
provide when asked about your mic configuration.

The K2 can be wired to match the pin configuration for most any mic - and
the Heil Proset has only a plug for the mic and a plug for the headphones -
the question of how your K2 is wired for that microphone depends on the
adapter that you chose with the Heil mic (assuming you purchased it from
Heil or another outlet.  Is the Proset the HC4 model?, the HC5 model?,
the -iC model? or the -K2 model? - the whole answer depends on that as well
as the adapter purchased with it.

If on the other hand, you are referring to the Heil PROSET-K2 (as far as I
know sold only by Elecraft), now that is a specific, well documented pin
configuration - In that case, refer to your KSB2 manual for the pinout of
the Elecraft microphone, or refer to the documentation that was shipped with
the microphone.
