SARA-VU3RSB
Dear Fellow Elecraft members

De Sara, VU3RSB from India

I am just curious to get opinion for the best microphone for K2.

Can any one suggest me for the Best Microphone especially for Contests /
Dxpeditions.

I am just return from Andaman Dxpedition 2006 trip and now needed good
microphone for my K2.

Awaiting for quick response in this regard.

Re: Microphone for K2

Hello Sara -

I recommend the Kenwood MC-43S microphone.  It plugs straight into the
K2 microphone connector and gives excellent quality. The MC-43S has UP
and DOWN buttons which, when used with the K2, changes between VFO A and
B.  This is very useful for contest working.

I hope that helps.

Hi Sara

I would second David's comment on the Kenwood MC-43S. In addition, the
necessary links on the K2 are adjacent to each other for a Kenwood
microphone so you can use "computer jumpers" rather than having to
solder wires. The MC-43S is very good value, cost here in the UK is
currently 17 pounds sterling, $32 (US) or 1417 Rupees, all plus tax.

Sara ....

The Kenwood MC-43S is a good microphone, however you said "for Contests
/ Dxpeditions".
It is very difficult to either keep a log sheet with pen or pencil, or
to type on the keyboard
and picking up the microphone on every QSO.

I would recommend one of the Heil Prosets, and the Heil foot switch to
give you hands-
free operation and make it easy to log the QSO's while you are talking.
We have used
them with the K2 on several DX trips to FP, V47, etc and they have
preformed very well
with the K2 (and other radios).  My favorite with the K2 is the Heil
Proset IC with the
Heil Icom adapter, and the K2 microphone header set up for Icom.
