Hello all,
I'm thinking about purchasing a KX3 for mobile use, and will eventually want to use it for MARS mobile use with the 100W amp from Elecraft. I'd like to see some comments from those who are using the KX3 as a mobile. Hi Tom,
You might want to take a look at the KX3 Mobile User Guide, posted on Elecraft's web site: http://www.elecraft.com/K2_Manual_Download_Page.htm#kx3_mobile I'm also a MARS op, and have used the KX3 mobile for MARS ops. The only issue I've found is making sure that the antenna is resonant. Standard-cut ham band resonators need mods sometimes, but if you're working with one of the screwdriver types of mobile antennas this is not a problem. With the shorter length antennas (Hustler in my case), the 100W amp is borderline mandatory, though I have worked a number of nets and events from the mobile without the amp: SSB, MT63, Thor, etc. Note also that I'm updating the Mobile User Guide. There will be some major structural and content refinements on the next go-around. Since I've decided to redo my mobile, I'll be document that development as it moves along. If you're interested, I accept docs for inclusion in the mobile guide and give credits. So far no one's taken me up on this. :) 73, matt W6NIA / NNN0UET On Sun, 14 Apr 2013 14:10:09 -0500, you wrote: >Hello all, > >I'm thinking about purchasing a KX3 for mobile use, and will >eventually want to use it for MARS mobile use with the 100W amp from >Elecraft. > >I'd like to see some comments from those who are using the KX3 as a >mobile. > >Thanks, > >73, >Tom >Amateur Radio Operator N5GE >ARRL Lifetime Member >QCWA Lifetime Member >73, >Tom >Amateur Radio Operator N5GE >ARRL Lifetime Member >QCWA Lifetime Member > >______________________________________________________________ >Elecraft mailing list >Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft >Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm >Post: mailto:[hidden email] > >This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net >Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I have been using my KX3 mobile for the last 2 months. RX is as good or better than any other mobile I have operated and at 10 watts I may not be strong but consistently get complements on the audio. Expect the noise blanker to be improved in a future software update.
