Hello,
Back in December 2005 a reporter with her last name Morse e-mailed me about the Polar Bear Club that we started last year. She wanted to do an article for the local paper she work at about Ham Radio and the Polar Bear group. She came out to the Appalachian trail with us on a cold December day. She did a lot of research about Ham Radio and realized that she is related to Samuel Morse. Ms. Morse like the hobby so much that she enrolled into a class in her town. Last night she passed the 5 WPM code test with only one question wrong and she aced the written test with every question answered correctly. She did go on and take the General test but only had a 50% with out studying for that segment. I encourage her to go on and study for the general test, she is half way there. She wanted to buy a radio but had no idea of what to look for to buy with a limited budget. So a bunch of members of the EPA QRP Club and Polar Bear Club raised money to add to her funds. As of today we have the following for her station. Kenwood TS-440SAT Power Supply Antenna for home QTH Now I need to look for a keyer and an Iambic key. If anyone has something that you don't use anymore and you would like to sell or possibly donate. Please drop me a direct e-mail. She is interested in CW and QRP work. So when her call arrives in the mail and I find out what the call is, I will post an update. She is digging deeper into her family tree to see what way she is related to Samuel Morse. Who knows, one day you might be talking to a direct descendant of Samuel Morse on CW. 72 and Thanks, Ron Polityka WB3AAL www.wb3aal.com www.n3epa.org _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hello,
I would like to update everyone on Morse's Radio Project. If you are not interested, please just press the delete button. I found out that Diana is a distant cousin of Samuel Morse a couple times removed. But she is still a Morse that did pass her testing for the Tech Plus license. She is still waiting on the results from last week. She told me that she is still practicing the code and is going to start studying for the General theory. She is doing this between working for a local newspaper and raising a family. At the moment we are waiting for a power supply and cord to arrive via UPS. I am hoping that we will have it tonight. I have tested the Kenwood TS-440SAT rig that we purchased for her. It works Great on CW and SSB. I have worked OE and LZ on SSB with 50 w, bands were in bad shape. I also worked TF on CW with 5 w. All reports were good and the signal was clean. We have a donated Bencher Paddle and a MFJ Keyer donated. Vibroplex donated a Straight Key towards the project. I am waiting on pictures of her QTH in the city to decide on what type of an antenna to use. I have a used Butternut HF9V that I am going to check out this weekend. I am hoping that it will be in good shape for us to place it on the roof. We are still short a few dollars to cover what we purchased for her. This does include the money she placed into the pot. So if you would like to be part of this project and get you name and call on the certificate that we are going to give her with the equipment please e-mail me direct and let me know that you would like to donate. The following have donated towards the project.
