My new K3

grumss
Hi everyone, Im a proud new owner of a K3.
I do have some gripes though, most already known.

-Smeter scaling too compressed down low where its mose used for weak signal.

-Notch filter width not adjustable! (would of thought this would be high priority)

-switching from 2M to hF sometimes lowers hf output to 10W!

-2M stability is terrible (even audible ssb) what were you guys thinking? Nearly unusable for a lot of my 2M weak signal work (surely this is an easy mod?)

-I would of liked two switchable antenna outputs without needing the tuner option (most people using a radio of this class wont be using an in-radio tuner)

-and last but not least, why are there so many birdies? Most if mine seem to be coming from the main oscillator and/or associated with the VCO (inadequate grounding and shielding on both) Is there a fix?

Great radio but it seems simple issues are holding it back (most should be easily fixed i would of thought)

Cheers, Graham VK3XDK

Re: My new K3

kcflyers
Re birdies, some months ago I sent an email to K3 support.  Received several photos showing how another K3 owner re-routed some of the internal coax cables.  Sorry, don't have the photos anymore, but Gary (at Elecraft) should be able to send to you.  The proper length cable will NOT be long enough for the new routing.  I used the extra long cable (12" I think) that was unused after doing my K3 assembly.

Birdies are now noticeably lower, more or less gone.   John.
