N1MM and K3

Richard Meilstrup
I need som advice to get my new K3 and N1MM work properly.  Only problem
left is this:  *I cannot make N!MM key the K3*. My PC (XP) has serial ports
and I use one of them. Will somebody out there tell me what to do?

Hi Rick,

Assuming already have the serial port for "rig control" and want to key
through the same port...

On the K3, set "CONFIG:PTT-KEY" to "rts-dtr"

In N1MM Configurer, Hardware tab, click "Set" for the appropriate serial
port, and set "DTR" to "CW" and "RTS" to "PTT".

Back at the Hardware tab, check the "CW" box for the port you just
configured.

That should do it...

I don't have my K3 right now [in the Elecraft shop], but there is a menu
item [CONFIG:RS232?] where you can select DTR and RTS for PTT and CW
keying. Pick your choice, write it down, then go to N1MM and in the
Configure menu item, choose the top one [Ports].  Select the COM port
you're using, check CW, and put the DTR/RTS settings in the appropriate
fields.  Works like a champ.
