NCJ Mar/Apr 8 Issue - pg 7-8: RX Parameters for Contestors

James Denneny
Author summarizes (pg8):  "around 100 to 105 dB of total dynamic range is
about all that most people want".  So, are claims of -138dB etc overblown in
terms of efficacy?  Interesting article by G3RZP.

You can find the article at:
   http://www.arrl.org/ncj/2008/03/feature.pdf

In his conclusion, G3RZP goes on: "The real question is where the dynamic range starts.  An antenna attenuator appears to be a useful approach to having a relatively low-cost (and low-power) approach to the receiver front-end problem".

This article reminds me of one by Gary Breed, K9AY, which appeared in the Nov/Dec 2000 issue of the NCJ.  You can find it at:
   http://www.arraysolutions.com/Products/appnote_preamps.htm

I do not see an easy way to add external attenuation to the transmitting antenna, as per K9AY, on a K3.
