[NJQRP] RE: [PolarBearQRP] Re: Dec. 17, 2005 Polar Bear Trip

WA3WSJ

Hello all Polar Bears!

Listen  for a Polar Bear Moonlight Madness Segment on Amateur Radio Newsline starting this Friday!

Ron, WB3AAL, was interviewed by ARNL the other day. To all you Elecrafters, and that includes me, listen for the plug for Elecraft. Yes conditions look good and the moon will soon be a full Cold Winter Moon. The temps are dropping and the radios are warming up. Perfect conditions for a Polar Bear Event!

I will again hike the two plus miles up the mountain to Pulpit Rock, but this time I will operate cw on 20m and 40m.

Hiking up to Pulpit Rock this time of year reminds me of that Hallmark Card commercial.

The one where a dad who had hiked up to a clearing in the woods with his daughter every Christmas now hikes alone

to the same spot to read a card sent to him from his now older daughter. The stars are out, a slight breeze chills the air and a big bright moon is in the sky.  Well, we Polar Bears of Pulpit Rock have the same setting!  It’s just so beautiful that we don’t worry about the cold weather.

So listen for all the polar bears in various places on December 17th.

If you bag a bear, send in for a free and very unique Polar Bear Certificate.

As always, I will give a replica polar bear claw to my first contact.

Good hunting and may your shot (radio wave) land on a polar bear!

Ron,

If all goes well with preparations I will be snowshoe mobile in
Gatineau Park with a 30m DCTL loop antenna mounted rhomboid fashion
atop on a fishing pole, base in my pack.  I'll be operating a KX1.

Probably from around 1600EST to 2000EST around 10107kHz.

I may also bring a 40m loop an
d switch over at 1800EST.

If preparations do not go so smoothly then I will be operating from
a ski lodge with an inverted vee instead.

Michael, VE3WMB and Pat, VE3EUR, plan on being there from the park
too, I think Michael is also planning to go pedestrian mobile and Pat
plans to operate from the lodge.

Pat will need a polar bear number by the way!

- Martin, will be VA3SIE/VE2/PM or /P.
