I am trying to install NaP3 for my KX3. In the NaP3's set-up screen, I am
only getting the option of "COM 6" for the I/O Port. This is not connecting to my KX3 as I believe I need COM 3 based on what I'm seeing in my computer's Device Manager. How do I enable more port options in the set-up menu so I can select COM 3? I've research this in various archives and Google and haven't seen anyone mention this issue before. I've re-booted my computer several times, have the right cable from Elecraft, etc. Also, I have set NaP3 to operate in XP compatability mode, a suggestion I found on one of the help pages I found. Any suggestions? 73, Ron Gruner K4RHG ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

It depends on what else you're using with the KX3. Roaring star (Google KX3 NAP3 LP Bridge and the Roaring Star site will be near the top) has a really good tutorial about setting up the KX3 with HRD and LP Bridge. It's most likely that the KX3 is using COM3 to talk with some other software.
Basically, you want to use LP Bridge (don't use v2-it's not stable enough) to connect to the KX3. Then, set up one virtual COM port for HRD (or whatever rig control software you're using), one for your logging software (I'm using N1MM logger) and one for NaP3 (or other SDR software). Other SDR apps may use different software in place of LP Bridge. I use the combination described above and it works pretty well. When you download the LP Bridge software, there is also a fairly detailed write-up about configuring the software and interfacing the sound card to the radio and software. It will probably take a little tweaking, but it's pretty well documented. Start up and shut down is order sensitive: radio first, LP Bridge next, then the other apps in any order. Turn everything off in the reverse order. 73, Giff / K1GAH KX3 #3724 Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Smartphone ----- Reply message ----- From: "Ron Gruner" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Subject: [Elecraft] NaP3 and KX3 connection Date: Sat, Apr 20, 2013 13:28 I am trying to install NaP3 for my KX3. Ron,
I did a short post on how to get this to work and it may be helpful for you. Ron,
Which Com port is selected when you connect with K3Utility? You should be able to use the same one with NaP3. If the port is not detected by NaP3, I would suspect a com port driver problem rather than NaP3 - it can only report what it receives from the computer. If it does not receive the expected response when polling for available ports, NaP3 will assume that the port is either not there or is not working properly. 73, Don W3FPR On 4/20/2013 1:28 PM, Ron Gruner wrote: > I am trying to install NaP3 for my KX3. Don,
Thanks. Good advice. I was mistaken, the KX3 Utility uses COM 6, not COM 3 like I thought. So I got that part working. Now I'm trying to figure out why both the Utility and NaP3 are only communicating at 4800 baud, instead of the usual 38400. I have the latest FTDI drivers for the USB Adapter. On another issues, I was using my notebook's built-in sound card which has a 48,000 sampling rate at 16 bits. I found the base noise level is much lower with a Soundblaster sampling at 48,000 and 24 bits. The Soundblaster can sample at 96,000 rate, but that doesn't seem to be on option on NaP3's set-up. Getting there slowly... 73, Ron ---------------------------------------- Ron Gruner K4RHG ---------------------------------------- From: "Don Wilhelm" <[hidden email]> Sent: Sunday, April 21, 2013 4:42 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] NaP3 and KX3 connection Ron, Which Com port is selected when you connect with K3Utility? Ron,
The best source of knowledge for questions about NaP3, Com ports, sound cards, and other related questions can be found on the LP-Pan Yahoo group. Larry (N8LP) and others are quite responsive. There is also a lot of helpful information at Larry's website www.telepostinc.com. Yes, an add-on high end sound card will normally have a lower noise floor than the ones built into a computer, even if the other specs are equal. 73, Don W3FPR On 4/21/2013 5:02 PM, Ron Gruner wrote: > Don, > > Thanks.
