New K144XV/KXV3A - problems on 2M - 1 milliwatt calibration ERR TXG and 'Unexpected response "DB 0.56 MW; " to "DB; " State 153'

david feldman-2

Seeking advice while trying to get KXV3A/K144XV added to existing K3-10. May be operator error. Detail below.

Rig's history: K3 SN 18xx, no options (single 2.7 kHz 5-pole filter), built from kit when first received (Fall 2008), used successfully for a little while, then stored until today (March 2010) (=I have very little operating time with the rig.)

Received KXV3A and K144XV kit recently which was installed today and having difficulty verifying operation on 2M band.

Main symptom - no receive signals heard on 2M band (can hear "normal" background noise, preamp changes receive noise level, but can't hear signal from HT in shack.) HF tx/rx still seems normal. When in data mode, and with XV1 PWR set instead to H 5.0 (for example) I see transmit output power on ANT1 connector in 144 MHz band (unfortunately I didn't check on another receiver or freq counter so I can only say I saw power into dummy load with that test.)

I completed install of KXV3A and K144XV in a single operation, then updated firmware for first time since radio was new (3.79 for K3, 1.00 for K144XV). Used config menu to set KXV3A to "nor" and K144XV to these: XV1 ON:YES; XV1 RF: 144; XV1 IF: 28; XV1 PWR: L 1.50.

Two brief flashes seen on K144XV module at power-up.
Preamp increases rx noise level on 144 MHz band.

Only FL2 installed (2.7 kHz), configured in all modes OK

Other unexpected results:

No "click" between 144-145 and 146-147 band segments.
No flash LED between 144-145 and 146-147 band segments.
Cannot independently set offset frequencies (XV1 OFS unchaged 144-146 vs 146-148 MHz
segment - if I change it while <146 MHz, then tune >146 MHz, the configuration parameter remains as I set for <146 MHz segment.)

Result of TX calibration using K3 utility:
