I have placed my order for this manual. It is 288 pages. It covers the P3
as well as the K3. I hope KE7X will provide addendums for download as new updates become available. I used the SUMMERBOOK11 code for a $7.00 discount. Shipping cost was $3.99. Colorado state sales tax ($2.64) was included however. Total cost was $34.63. Hi all,
Thanks for your interest in "The Elecraft(r) K3: Design, Configuration, and Operation". At long last I have done all the final editing and I am satisfied with how it looks. (No changes from the earlier announced version if you managed to get that.) If you will go to www dot ke7x dot com you will find some sample material from each of the chapters and that there are THREE ways to get the book. You can click on the ORDER link that will take you to www.lulu.com where you will order the version you would like. 1. There is a spiral-bound hard copy version. The cost for this is $35 (plus postage). 2. You may download a pdf file for the book (about 8 Mb). The cost for this is $15. 3. You may order the book on a CD (it too is a pdf file) for $20. Some people have asked about getting a three-hole punched copy to put into a three-ring binder. Please send me email if that is something you are interested in. 73, Fred, KE7X Fred Cady fcady at ieee dot org ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Nicely offset my ground shipping costs, Bill. Thanks!
Counting printing and shipping time, the book should arrive in time for this year's Field Day. I intend to bring the book our to our W8UM/ARROW joint Field Day effort along with my K3/P3, and wave it about, to see if I can generate any more interest in both the rig and the book. We've successfully used the K3 in the past two Field Days to churn out about 800+ CW contacts for the weekend. It does yeoman's work, and I've heard nothing but compliments on its performance. This will be the first year with the P3, so we'll see about folks' reaction to that. Thanks, Fred, for what looks like what will be a really useful guide to the K3/P3. I'm sure I'll enjoy pouring through it, and learning surprising new things about my radio. 73, -- Dave, N8SBE > -------- Original Message -------- > Subject: Re: [Elecraft] New K3 guide by KE7X > From: Bill Tippett <[hidden email]> > Date: Thu, June 09, 2011 11:41 am > To: [hidden email] > > > And don't forget to enter the 20% discount coupon code SUMMERBOOK11 > during checkout! > > 73, Bill W4ZV > > http://www.ke7x.com/home/guide-to-the-k3/order > > June 9, 2011: > We are good to go! I was just ordering Fred's book as a download, but stopped when lulu decided
to add VAT to the price. Here, in the UK, books are exempt from VAT, so I tried to report this to lulu, but they won't accept a query without an order number and an order number is only generated in response to payment. So, I just have to accept that I'm ripped off yet again, this time by lulu. It's not Fred's fault and it's not a critique of his outstanding work, it's just me, fed up with living the wrong (and more expensive) side of the pond. Grrrr, just so others in the EU know what to expect. It is my experience (mostly in CH and DL) that all one has to do is
collect the receipts showing the VAT and take them to the nearest customs office for a refund. Granted it's a PAITA, but better than being "ripped off" by an unresponsive bureaucracy. I downloaded the PDF version for $12.00 with the summerbook11 code. I have in
mind to print it for looseleaf in a binder. I have not had time to read it, but it seems worth the time for reading and certainly the price. The printed price is also reasonable, but I prefer loose leaf so that I can insert notes or exerpts from the Elecraft Manual as seems right to me and also post any changes that might become available. I am another happy customer and Lulu seems interesting, but it is another thing I have not had time to digest. KE7X new book is a spectacular addition to K3 documentation. I own
K3 S/N 0799. I've followed this list, read and reread the manual, spent many hours with the K3. Fred's explanations of some of the more difficult to understand K3 features are lucid. He uses figures, images text and exercises in a combination that gets the ideas across. Even experienced owners should prepare for many "aha moments" as they work their way through this remarkable book. Thanks to you Fred for writing the book I needed to lift my K3 operating to the next level. Not related to KE7X in ant way - just very grateful for this chance to get more from my K3. Hello Bill,
Thanks for the tips and I got my downloaded version at US$12. The user guide was well written and highly readable (Sorry, English is my second language). However, if someone doesn't want to buy this guide, he may still get the required information by: - reading the Elecraft manuals thoroughly (cover to cover); - asking questions in this reflector or contacting Elecraft support team Having said that, for a price of a hot dog lunch in Walls Street, New York City, this user guide is very value for money. As explained offline to F5VJC, and as stated in my original post, there was
no criticism of Fred's work intended. I wrongly assumed that a book was a book, and assumed that lulu was charging VAT on books. At least one assumption too many on my part (to satisfy those who like to have a sly dig) and I was wrong. I'm grateful to Ian, GM3SEK, for pointing out that a book isn't always a book, especially when it's a download or on a CD. I learned something useful as a result of his response to my post. Weather, taxes and politicians are the favourite gripes of true Brits and it's just started raining here HI! Finally, my sincere thanks to Fred for his labour of love. My hope is that we can all do it justice by learning more about the K3. 73 all.
