Andy, just my 2-bitsworth as a fellow G.
I ordered a kit from Norcal in early January to give me some experience in
building with SMDs. It wasn't despatched quickly, so be prepared for a long
wait.
Some incorrect SMD capacitors were supplied and they were notified of that a
month ago. The request was acknowledged with a promise of replacements, but
the parts still haven't arrived and a polite enquiry has fallen on deaf
ears, so the small kit remains unbuilt. I have, however, obtained and built
three fairly complex SMD-populated units from the US for friends in the
interim, so building the Norcal is now largely an irrelevance.
Their response might be different for North Americans - indeed, it may be
just my personal misfortune here on this side of the pond, but one thing I'm
sure of is that nothing beats Elecraft, whose response, communication and
service are without doubt the best in the business.

Except that if he wants a kit, he would need to order it from Wilderness
Radio. I have built all of their kits and have gotten first class service.
