It would be VERY NICE if the digital bandplan was adhered to.  The RTTY guys
are some of the most flagrant violators and are usually all over all of what
is/was the CW sub-band here.  I have thought for years they should stay in
the segment occupied by other digital (non-CW) modes.

I always try and stay out of the digital areas with CW to keep from
interfering with them, unless I too am using a digital mode (like PSK).  The
only digital 'bunch' I have seen outside the traditional Region 2 digital
bandplan is European PSK.  The area they use is very small and not usually a
QRM problem.  Not so with the RTTY contest folks!

In the ideal world yes. Unfortunately the bandplans do not reflect the increase in interest in RTTY contests and the space they need. Hence the spread of activity. I have always been a strong advocate of bandplans and deplore out of bandplan operation in contests, but you have to be realistic. As it happened there was no contest activity below 7020 this weekend and plenty of space for QSOs down there. Don't do RTTY or other data here but am a keen QRP operator and get great results in contests as well. Well meaning though they are, contest gripers do little to help our hobby.
