OT: Help with Ham Radio Deluxe and K3

Jack Colson
I am trying to get my two computers to communicate with each other and
control the K3.  The K3 interfaces OK to the remote server PC which is
co-located.

I am using a wireless network and have enabled port 7805 to be passed
through the router.

Problem is getting the two computers to communicate.

I would appreciate any help, actually I would prefer to discuss this
over the LL.  It would be faster than back and forth emailing.

Thank you in advance!

I would be interested in the answer to getting this going.  Please post the
solution when up and running.  I am aware that one solution (via hearsay) is
to use Skype on both ends.  Is there another?  What are the
advantages/disadvantages of each?

I tried to get this going but the P2-366-256k laptop I was trying to use at
the operators end for HRD/DM780/PSK31 was not able to handle the traffic
either because of speed or memory restrictions so am in the process of
gettting another PC set up.  I was attempting the Skype solution and feel
sure it will work once I get a reasonable machine going.

Thanks es 73, de Jimm KG0KP

K7AGE in kalifornia seems to have solved the problem of how to control your home computer and radio when away from home on a trip.

See his video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whe9nV9InnQ

He uses www.logmein.com which provides free remote control of the one's home computer.  The PRO version costs money, it gives only 1-way audio.  The PRO version doesn't seem to help this application.

Then for sound he uses SKYPE - setup to auto answer and to use the sound-card built into his tigertronics Signalink-USB which also provides PTT.

This solution works great for him - when he takes his laptop on a trip and uses the hotel's wifi.

However, for people using the hotel's computer in the lobby... or people who are at work... in both cases often one has no priviledge to install any software on the computer.  For unknown reasons SKYPE does not provide a web based SKYPE phone call capability.  SKYPE software has to be installed.

Even if one gets Skype to work from a USB thumb drive, some employers have SKYPE's application sockets blocked at the router.  Why the strong desire to block Skype?  I don't know.  But some employers blocks it.

So, to me, two way sound is the larger challenge for remote application.

However, for digital modes, two way sound is not needed, and www.logmein.com provides the complete solution.
