Friday night after work I took some list member advice
and put an antenna up for K3 on 6 meters. It was a contest weekend so I figured there would be lots of people around the band. In 30 years I had never gotten around to 6 meters. Friday night I heard - nothing. Saturday morning I heard a few locals that I had seen at club meetings but always thought they were "inactive". The were clustered at 50.125 most of the morning asking each other if the other one was hearing anything. ??? ;-) I thought "so THIS is what they do?" !!! Checking the band off and on around TV, etc. then Sunday afternoon I started hearing the other guys working stations on SSB, then some good CW rolling in. The opening was from Seattle down the coastline to San Diego, with a Colorado station thrown in for good measure. The ground plane on the roof (6m cut down from 10m) was up to the task, and K3 - fabulous. I don't have a 6m wattmeter or tuner, but K3 provided the SWR and power out for me. Also interesting was that I was hearing very little if anything on 10m while 6m was open. Maybe nobody was there? Seems to me MUF still governs sporadic E. Lots of fun, hope to do some more. Also this weekend, added a small section for LP-PAN to the wiki. As always, feel free to contribute - please. !!! http://www.zerobeat.net/mediawiki/index.php/LP-PAN_and_LP-Bridge%2C_CW_Skimmer_and_PowerSDR http://tinyurl.com/6kmw4x http://www.zerobeat.net/mediawiki/index.php/K3_Wiki_at_ZeroBeat.NET _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Not much heard from Montana DN55 either. I believe that we are victims to
events that hit the polar regions. There were some openings NM, FLA, TX, etc but nothing to write home about and nothing to keep me pinned to the radio. I checked the bands often and called lots of people that just never heard me. I think most beams never pointed our way. The K3 worked great. No issues. -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Don Rasmussen Sent: Monday, June 16, 2008 9:50 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: [Elecraft] OT K3 on 6m Friday night after work I took some list member advice and put an antenna up for K3 on 6 meters. I don't have my K3 yet but in anticipation I built a 3 element beam that I had mounted temporarily at only about 14 feet. Using my IC-706 I heard and worked a lot of stations Friday night and on Sunday. This was my first action on 6M in over 26 years on the air. I'm really looking forward to getting the beam mounted above my tribander at about 48 feet and having the K3 ready to use on 6M.
