OT: MS Updates

Paul Saville-4
Hello Fred,

The updates issued by Microsoft fix security flaws and other
bugs in Windows. It is more safe to install them than not
to. It is also best to install them as soon as possible
after they are released by Microsoft, because computer
criminals often use the information in the security update
to figure out how to attack computers that haven't had the
update applied.

In the XP start menu select Control Panel, then click Switch
to Classic View in the left-hand panel, then select
Automatic Updates. The Automatic Updates page allows you to
turn automatic updates off, and also has a link to the
Windows Update website so you can get updates manually. Once
you are comfortable with the concept, I recommend leaving
Automatic Updates turned on.

I will respond via the reflector in the hope that this
information is useful to some other list members.

Regards, Paul ZL3IN
