OT: More "Dummy" Ant. Antics

Mike Fitzgibbon
Ha ha...

Once, a while back, I was messing with a 30M xtal in a homebrew
transmitter circuit of about two transistors...  My "antenna" was a
ten-foot piece of wire thrown on the basement floor...no antenna tuner.
Since I didn't expect ANYONE could hear me I was sending a bit
of...well..."scatology" I will call it...four letter words...you know.
Well, a day or two later a very well-known QRPer that lives about 150
miles north of me reported the incident on the qrp-l reflector...he had
heard me on the band...  I never told anyone until now, and now...you
ALL know...  It still makes me laugh...

    Geeze...I gotta grow up!

Re: OT: More "Dummy" Ant. Antics

The old trick of using a light bulb for a dummy load, isn't a dummy load either. I had a Q with a fellow in Texas, from Ft. Collins Colorado, in 1967, on a pair of phased inverted vees.... an inch or so long....held in a vacumn by a clear round glass.

I believe it was rated at 60 watt.

I, for one, am very happy that we don't have to use light bulbs any longer... and I am ecstatic that we don't have to, but may choose to use things like tubes... but best of all.. I am very pleased to be able to build a top of the line radio, with parts and pieces that arrive in a box.
