All,
Does anyone know a good source of UHF connectors? If so, please respond off list with Make, Model and, if you have it, Vendor. Thanks. I found the best price to be from Allied when I bought in quantity about a year ago. $2.74 in 100-lots. These are the silver-plated for easy soldering. You'll pay at least 20% more for smaller quantities. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Jim is correct. I also use only Amphenol PL-259 type connectors, and buy them in 100 or 200 lots. I use the "astro-plate" version, which take solder easily, and is a bit less expensive than the "full silver plate" version. (The center pin is still silver plated). I think the part number ends in, or at least includes, the number 1050. Last time I purchased some, I think I got them from Mouser. Believe it or not, if you haggle (in friendly way) with the sales-lady on the phone sometimes you can get a significantly better price than what is shown in the catalog. I have NEVER had a failure with an Amphenol connector. I cannot say the same for the import types. This is one instance where you get what you pay for. As you can tell from the quantities that I use, that represents lots of connections. - Jim, KL7CC Jim Brown wrote: > On 10/11/2011 11:46 AM, John Huggins, kx4o wrote: > >> Does anyone know a good source of UHF connectors? >> > > For soldering, Amphenol 83-1SP is the only thing to buy. That's what's difficult to solder, and it's why I spend a bit extra for the 83-1SP. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
I looked at the specs for Amphenol 83-1SP connectors on Mouser and the center pin is silver plated but the shell plating is nickel. What is the Amphenol part number for PL-259's with silver plated shells ? I believe the Mouser description is incorrect. The Amphenol UHF catalog at:
http://www.amphenolrf.com/products/CatalogPages/UHF.pdf clearly shows the 83-1SP as having silver body plating while the plating on the 83-1SP-1050 is nickel. That said, I have never had any trouble soldering to the 83-1SP-1050. I tin the braid then use an American Beauty 100 or 200 watt iron. It is important that the tip have enough thermal mass. Even a Weller 550 soldering gun does not have a large enough tip. 73 Pete - N8TR At 10:07 AM 10/12/2011, you wrote: >I looked at the specs for Amphenol 83-1SP connectors on Mouser >and the center pin is silver plated but the shell plating is nickel. > >What is the Amphenol part number for PL-259's with silver plated shells ? > >Bob >K6UJ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Hi Bob,
I use the 83-1SP's also and they are a silver plated shell. I believe the information on the Mouser product page is incorrect. The true Amphenol "Product Details" are here: http://www.amphenolrf.com/record.asp?N=0&sid=4E94D88014383CFF&R=083-1SP Andy VK4KY |

Pete,
Thanks for the catalog reference. I see now, the 83-1SP is the PL-259 with both body and pin silver plated. (and with the 1050 prefix has nickel body) I wasn't having any success in trying to figure it out. tnx es 73, Bob K6UJ On Oct 12, 2011, at 12:59 PM, Pete Michaelis - N8TR wrote: > I believe the Mouser description is incorrect. I've bought hundreds of them. 83-1SP has a silver plating on the part of the shell that you solder. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

And what about chasis SO239? I wanted to replace a N connector for an
Amphenol SO239 in a centre dipole, and was really hard to have a solid solder of the negative wire. 73, Jorge CX6VM -----Mensaje original----- De: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] En nombre de Jim Brown Enviado el: Martes, 11 de Octubre de 2011 11:17 p.m. Para: [hidden email] Asunto: Re: [Elecraft] OT Quality UHF Connectors On 10/11/2011 11:46 AM, John Huggins, kx4o wrote: > Does anyone know a good source of UHF connectors?
