OT: Re: K2 headphone audio for sound card PSK31?

Well, I have two desktops and a laptop, all running XP
Pro SP2 + latest patches and updates. All three have
separate soundcards (1 per PC) and both the separate
card and the mainboard built-in card work fine in
each, no problems. It's simply a matter of going into
Control Panel > Sounds > Sounds & Audio Devices (and
then also Speech), and telling XP which soundcard to
use for the various sounds/speech. Some audio programs
also allow you to pick the soundcard; I know of a
number of people successfully using two (or more)
soundcards in one PC.

The one problem you might run into is if you use a
soundcard that uses the same driver as your mainboard
built-in soundcard. Then XP can't tell which soundcard
is which, and you'd need to disable the mainboard
soundcard. But, as long as the drivers are different
(I use Creative soundcards which use different drivers
than those used by the built-ins) everything should
work fine. Interestingly, even the install guides said
I'd need to disable the built-ins, but after tweaking
Control Panel, all is well.

We find things out the hard way -- Windows XP will
not recognize a separate soundcard unless the
mainboard sound system is disabled.  This was not
acceptable for my installation.
