OT: SIGNAL LINK & Windows 10 audio output

Keith N6JPA-2
I have just purchased a signal link USB device. The problem I am having
is that every windows sound is going through the signallink USB to my
radio. How do I not let windows sound go through the signal link USB to
my radio transmitter? TIA

Keith,

Right click on the speaker icon in the bottom right area of your screen and choose "open sound settings".
Near the top change the default output from your Signal Link back to your main sound card.

That should do it.

You may have to reset the output settings of the programs you are using to send to your radio to use the Signal link specifically.

Hope that helps.

Keith,

You need to change the default soundcard back to the internal soundcard
(or anything other than the Signal Link soundcard).

It is not unusual for Windows to assign the latest installed soundcard
to be the default.

And if you have similar problems later check there first. Especially if
there has been a Windoze upgrade. Ask me how I know.

While pertinent, the solutions offered disregarded the symptom:  "Windows
Sounds".  In Windows 10, hit the Windows key, type "Windows Sounds".  That
should take offer to take you to the Sound Control Panel.  Select the tab
named "Sounds".  Select the Sound Scheme "No Sounds"  That stops the Windows
Sounds, not selecting the sound device.

That is the "scorched earth" solution. Most of us have more than 1 sound
device on our systems and use them for different things. I prefer to leave
the system sounds where they belong and keep the other sounds where they
belong. And Win 10 makes it simple to do, but does sometimes rearrange
things on upgrades. But if you know how to access those settings it only
takes a few seconds to straighten them out.
