Hi all,
I'm looking for recommendations for a float charger to keep my generator battery topped off but I would also like to be able to charge some smaller SLA batteries- 12 amp hour units. Will a one size fits all approach work? Brand/model?? Jim,
There are several 3 state chargers available, I would recommend one of them. If your battery is of the automotive type and it is normally fully charged, I would suggest that a small power source adjusted for 13.8 volts will do just as well. That is how the float charge is maintained for residential alarm systems and emergency lighting systems. It does not take much current to keep the charge topped off, but may take a long time to charge a discharged battery. 73, Don W3FPR On 12/1/2013 5:10 PM, Jim Hoge wrote: > Hi all, > > I'm looking for recommendations for a float charger to keep my generator battery topped off but I would also like to be able to charge some smaller SLA batteries- 12 amp hour units. I've had good luck charging and maintaining a variety of batteries with
the BatteryMINDer Model 12248. It has settings for AGM, flooded cell, and Gel batteries, and settings to charge at 2, 4, and 8 amperes. The only caution: the signal it uses to desulfate batteries will negatively affect the quality of your signal if you charge the battery while transmitting. I switch to another charger if it becomes necessary to both charge and transmit simultaneously. 73, Dave On 12/1/2013 4:10 PM, Jim Hoge wrote: > Hi all, > > I'm looking for recommendations for a float charger to keep my generator battery topped off but I would also like to be able to charge some smaller SLA batteries- 12 amp hour units.
