For those who may be interested in some short-wave broadcast history: I
came across a podcast called "70 Años de Radio Exterior de España." It's
produced by RNE and available free from the iTunes store under podcasts.
This is a documentary produced in a style similar to an NPR vignette, but
longer. It tells the story of the short-wave BC station, which is a
favorite with SWLs, and includes scratchy clips going back to the station's
earliest days in 1942 in the middle of WW2. It offers unique glimpses into
the turbulent history of Spain and 20th century Europe as seen through the
lens of what was aired on that station at various times, as well as a few
notes about how much power they were running and where their antennas were
located. (56 minutes, in Spanish, featuring announcers sporting a variety
of regional accents plus bombastic theme music.)
