Off Topic Use IC746PRO for a K3 Panadaptor

Kenneth Christiansen
My K3 which I ordered June 13th should be coming soon.
My present rigs are K2/100 SN 1031 and an IC-746PRO. I plan to keep both
of them as the K2 is great for my camping and I have it set up for my
XYL WD0EWM in her new shack. The IC-746PRO is my 2 meter all mode
station and will be a backup the new K3. The IC-746PRO has a SCP
(Panadaptor) feature with 2 modes of operation. It is not  as good as
the IC756PRO3 but I still find it works well. My question is this. I
have the KXV3 option ordered for the K3 and I would like to use the
IC-746PRO in the SCP mode as a panadaptor. It will tune the 8.215 IF but
at this point I have two problems. Does the level from the K3 need to be
padded down for the IC-746PRO and if so how much? The other problem is
how can I make sure I never accidentally transmit RF back into the K3
from the IC-746PRO as it does not have a receive only antenna jack.
Thanks in advance for your help. I know there are many good ideas out
there you can share with me.
73 for now

Use the RX Antenna input on the 746Pro.

Use the RX Antenna input on the 746Pro.

My problem is the 746PRO does not have an RX Antenna input.
I still need a safe way to avoid putting RF back into the K3.

Build or buy one of the many "front end saver" type devices.
Search Google for "Front end saver."  Connect the control
input to the HSEND line on ACC(2) of the 746Pro.  When properly
designed and controlled, the FES can disconnect and ground the
K3 IF Out and switch the 746Pro output to a dummy load or antenna.

Note however, the 746 Pro should not be capable of transmitting
when tuned to the K3 IF frequency anyway - it's out of band.
