On rare occasions the T1 freezes when tuning in 40 meters

Jose Campione
The T1 is a superb little tuner. In performs flawlessly and tunes my 43 Ft. vertical antenna to SWR values below 1.5 in all HF bands. However, on rare occasions, particularly when tuning in the 40 meter band, I do encounter the same problem that was accurately described by Monty N5ESE in his thorough review of the T1 Elecraft tuner (http://www.n5ese.com/t1_atu.htm):

“While trying to tune and re-tune on our half-wave on 40 meters […], after retuning about 5 times unsuccessfully, it froze up, and would no longer respond to pushbuttons […] I removed the battery for several seconds, then reinstalled it, and all came up normally.”

I have no idea of the reason for the T1 to occasionally behave in this way. However, through trial and error, I have found that there is no need to remove the battery to reset the tuner and that all it takes to return it to normal function is to tune in a another band before returning to retune in the band where the freezing has occurred.

Hope this is useful to other users of this superb little tuner.

On closer examination it was found that the BNC connector for the antenna was lose (i.e., both pins were moving inside their soldered sockets). Re-soldering these contacts seems to have resolved the problem.
