Other benefits of installing K60XV

David Walker-8
Hello group,

I am considering getting the 144 transverter.  I am curious if there any
other benefits of installing the X60XV apart from not having to switch
antennas?

RE: Other benefits of installing K60XV

Group:

How about adding an extra pre-drive stage with automatic
gain which takes anywhere from 5-50W and drives it to the
level needed for full (800 resp. 1800W) output?

That's how some of the other amps seem to do it.  If you
feed it 5W, the pre-drive stage does its 10dB thing first.
If you feed it 25W, etc etc. up to the point where you
feed it 50-100W, where it doesn't do any pre-drive at all,
possibly even some level of 'input overdrive' shutdown
protection.

I'd like a KPA1800 for use with my K2/100, but being able
to use it with my bare K2/15, as well as with e.g. my
FT817 would kick ass.  "One good amp serves all", and I'd
prefer it to be an Elecraft !

Given the cost of R&D and the sheer desire to actually make
money on things, Elecraft should think (or perhaps re-think)
their design into a market position where they can grab a
big load of sales, not "just" K2/100 owners...

Cheers,

Dave,

You will gain low level input to the XV144, be able to utilize separate
transmit and receive paths between the XV144 and the K2,  and yes. if you
use the K2 for HF, there is no need to change the HF antenna when using the
transverter.
