After the update that gave us the ability to shift VFO frequency without the spectrum changing, there are times that I want to recenter the cursor on the VFO frequency -- especially if I am using a narrow spectrum width in order to view the spectrum shape of a signal.
I can do this by pressing the Center function and using the knob to recenter the cursor. But, I would like to do it with a single command button? Is there a way to do this? I have experimented but I can't seem to find a method that DOES NOT require me to manually adjust the cursor location using the knob on the P3. Thanks for help or pointers to where I can read up on how to do this? So far, not found the right section if it exists. 73, phil, K7PEH ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Pressing (actually holding) CENTER _twice_ will do it. 73, Stephen G4SJP On 13/03/2011 17:11, "Phil Hystad" <[hidden email]> wrote: > >After the update that gave us the ability to shift VFO frequency without >the spectrum changing, there are times that I want to recenter the cursor >on the VFO frequency -- especially if I am using a narrow spectrum width >in order to view the spectrum shape of a signal. > >I can do this by pressing the Center function and using the knob to >recenter the cursor. > >But, I would like to do it with a single command button? > Pressing (actually holding) CENTER _twice_ will do it. No, holding Center twice will center the *carrier.* If one is in SSB or DATA A, the cursor will be offset to one side of the display. It is actually impossible to look at an entire SSB (or data) signal with the span set to 3 or 4 KHz. I ran into that last night ... I heard a badly distorted signal and wanted to capture it full span width and it was not possible to offset the "center" enough manually to move the carrier to the left edge of the graticule. 73, ... Another way is to switch to tracking mode and then immediately back
again to fixed mode. OK, thanks Stephen. I did that and it worked -- just what
I wanted it to do (most of the time). And, I do see what Joe is talking about that if the spectrum is narrow and the cursor is as wide or wider then half of the display that the center push twice does not do anything. But, the knob dial does still work and allowed me to bring my cursor into the center to see the whole spectrum of a signal anyway. So, I guess I will use both techniques. The double push when cursor is narrow and the dial in with the knob when the cursor is close to half the width of the display. phil On Mar 13, 2011, at 11:11 AM, Joe Subich, W4TV wrote: > >> Pressing (actually holding) CENTER _twice_ will do it. > > No, holding Center twice will center the *carrier.* If > one is in SSB or DATA A, the cursor will be offset to one > side of the display. > > It is actually impossible to look at an entire SSB (or data) > signal with the span set to 3 or 4 KHz.
