P3 cursor tunes off screen

Tim Gennett
I have the FixMode menu function in my P3 set to Full.  Yet, when in fixed
tune mode, the cursor tunes off screen and the center frequency does not
update.

Is there another setting that affects this function?

Tim,

That is what Fixed Mode is all about - the center frequency stays put
and the cursor follows the VFO.  If you have the SPAN set to a value
more narrow than your QSY excursion, the cursor will go off-screen.

If you instead go to tracking mode, the cursor stays fixed in the center
and the "background area" moves and the frequency at the center will
track your VFO frequency.

Re: P3 cursor tunes off screen

I'm not quite certain what Tim means by "tunes off-screen," but taken
literally, it's not how mine works.  My parameters on 80 CW currently are:

FIXED-TUNE on
FIXED MODE AUTO ADJUST=Full Span
SPAN=20 KHz

When I tune VFO A up in frequency, its cursor moves to the right and
when it gets to the right edge, the display moves up 20 KHz and the
cursor appears at the left edge.

When I tune VFO B up, its cursor moves to the right and when it gets to
the right edge, it disappears and the triangle appears pointing to the
right.

I think Tim is saying that he tunes VFO A up, the cursor goes off-screen
on the right, and the display span does not update.  Is there any chance
your Auto-Adjust has gotten set to static?  In static, mine behaves as I
think you describe.

Setting full span or half span works best for most.  Fred nailed this one.

Re: P3 cursor tunes off screen

I am always amazed at how different we are as individuals.  I have
several CW friends who think half-span is better than canned beer.  For
me, I just get really confused by it.  I'm an Iambic-A ham, others swear
that B is the only way.  Actually, I never got Iambicized and I now use
a single lever key, but I couldn't send on a dual lever if it was on
Iambic-B, unless extraneous dits were good.

One of the things I really like about my K3 is that it has so many ways
to configure things.  I've gotten the TX EQ to the point where I get
unsolicited "Great audio" comments in the rare times I step into the
phone bands, and the RX EQ to where I can sort of understand SSB.

One of the things I really dislike about my K3 is that it has so many
ways to configure things, I run out of configuring time. ]:-)
