I wrote a P3 macro to center the display (instead of having to press [hold] SPAN/CENTER button twice - I use Fixed Tune Mode. The macro is: #FXT0;#FXT1;#FXA1; and works fine when executed from the P3 Utility.
It also works fine when I execute it from the K3 Utility (which simply passes the commands to the P3.) The problem is that when I assign this macro to a programmable switch on the K3...it does NOT work! The label appears as it should in the VFO B display on the K3, but it has no effect on the P3. That is, the P3 center frequency does not change. Other macros to to P3 like killing and restoring the waterfall that I have used to test my procedure work fine. Only this one macro seems to have a problem. Any suggestions? tnx es 73 ..mike AI6II |
As N2BC explained to me, the programmed buttons on the K3 work directly rather than through the CAT 'stream', so the commands don't get to the P3 at all. I trieda different approach, placing the commands in a CAT macro in HRD 6. I was able only able to get it to execute when I wrapped them within an 'dummy' K3 command, that is focusing on a K3 menu item (MN053;), issuing the P3 commands and then closing the K3 menu: MN053;#FXT0;#FXT1;#FXA1;MN255;
It works. |
It would be really nice if there was an option to assign macros to the P3 function keys instead, programmable through the P3 utility.
Let's hope the Elecraft guys read this :) // Ake |

A similar approach is documented here:

already available if you install the P3's SVGA board
copied from page 11 of the SVGA Manual found here: http://www.elecraft.com/K2_Manual_Download_Page.htm#p3 direct link here: http://www.elecraft.com/manual/E740170%20P3SVGA%20Manual%20Rev%20D.pdf <quote> Using Macros Macros are used to automate a sequence of control setting and button pushes on the K3 so that they may be accomplished with a single entry on the keyboard. For example you may want to create macros to shift the K3 into a particular mode on a specific frequency or band by a simple one or two key entry on the keyboard. You can create and enter up to 50 macros of up to 124 characters each. They are stored in non-volatile memory so they will not be lost when power is cycled. These memory locations are independent of the message memories. You can store 50 messages and 50 macros at the same time. Entering Macros Press Ctrl-Alt-M to open the macro entry window. The process of entering the various windows, assigning a key used to recall the macro and editing macros is identical to that used for text messages. See Text Message Entry, above. Note that to enter the text message entry window you pressed Ctrl-Alt-T but you must press Ctrl-Alt-M to enter the macro entry window. Sample Macro: Assign a macro memory to the F1 key (see Figure 5) and enter and save the following macro (see Figure 6): FA00014970000;MD6;FA00014070000;DT3 Now pressing F1 on the keyboard will send the above macro to the K3 setting VFO A to 14.070 and the mode to DATA, PSK31. NOTE: When creating a macro, pressing ^F will place the K3’s current frequency (including RIT) into the macro in the form of an FA command. For example, if VFO A is set to 7.123 and ^F is pressed while entering the macro, FA00007123000; will be inserted into the macro string. Yeah, but I don't want an external display or keyboard...
It appears to be a relatively simple thing to add the option to the P3 natively. Or, as suggested, adding the possibility to send commands from the K3 on the KAT interface. // Ake |
Just curious if it is within the realm of reason to have completely
different displays (future upgrade???) on the P3 vs. it's VGA output? I know they're slightly different now, since there's a longer waterfall on the VGA than the P3's own display. So much so, that I never even look at the P3 unless I need to push one of it's control buttons. Curiously, I was originally hoping for a P3 version that did not even HAVE an internal display. Also, P3's spectrum display is a single trace whereas the external monitor shows a more typical fill in under the line. 73, Charlie k3ICH ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
I think that there are a number of us hoping for more functionality from
the P3. This does get addressed in this list from time to time with the occasional tantalizing glimpse of what might be just around the corner. For me, I would like the P3's display to show other information pertinent to the K3 - perhaps a data display with more lines than the SVGA option can offer - or K3 operating parameters for example, without the need to go through the K3's menu system. Then of course, there is the hole in the back panel that is crying out for a socket! 73 Stephen, G4SJP On 14 January 2014 14:57, Charlie T, K3ICH <[hidden email]> wrote: > Just curious if it is within the realm of reason to have completely > different displays (future upgrade???) on the P3 vs. it's VGA output?
