Ok - here's one....
New P3. K3 1 month old. Both factory built with internal 2m module, KXV3A etc. I have no IF display at all on the P3 on any band at any scale level. Tried rescaling, everything on P3. I have changed IF lead. If I put a freq counter on the IF out socket from the K3 I get nothing - is this right? Can it be switched on and off by the K3 software? I cannot see mention of this anywhere. RS232 works and displays freq on P3 OK. DSP widths are showing - everything by IF signal data. Any thoughts please? Roger GW4WND |

Have you tried a scope? Do you have a radio that can tune to 8.8 MHz? If so, try connecting it to the IF output of your K3 so see what you hear. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Roger,
The level from the K3 IF out jack is quite low - about what you would expect from an antenna. So you will need something more sensitive that a 'scope of frequency meter to find anything. Connect to a separate receiver that can tune to the K3 IF near 8.8 MHz to see if you can hear any signals. As Jim Brown pointed out, a common problem is a bad BNC cable - try a known good one. 73, Don W3FPR On 7/4/2011 10:03 AM, Roger Banks wrote: > Ok - here's one.... > New P3. K3 1 month old. OK- thanks for all the input on this on and off this forum.
Some are saying that it may be a loose/missing cable. I have the 2M module in. Does this not modify the routing as there is an IF in and out on the module? I cannot get to the back of the IF out board without a serious amount of dismantling here. Roger |
I also have had a back BNC lead but sorted this.
If I connect my IC-R20 to the IF Out, tune to 8.8Mhz I hear nothing at all... |
Roger,
I am confused - your prior post said that you could not easily get to the IF out jack on the K3. I would guess that means you removed the cable from the P3 and connected it to your IC-R20. That still leaves the cable high on the suspect list. The K144XV IF out is at 28 MHz and is connected to the receiver front end - that has nothing to do with the IF output jack on the K3. 73, Don W3FPR On 7/4/2011 11:04 AM, Roger Banks wrote: > I also have had a back BNC lead but sorted this. > If I connect my IC-R20 to the IF Out, tune to 8.8Mhz I hear nothing at > all... > > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

GM Roger.
Did you try the IF menu in setup? If you don't select K3 it won't work. Also, that is where you must select the IF value if you want to use other radios. Also triple check the cable. 73 Greg AB7R On 7/4/2011 7:03 AM, Roger Banks wrote: > Ok - here's one.... > New P3. K3 1 month old. BTW that was the menu on the P3, not the K3.

FOUND THE PROBLEM.During factory build the coax cable to the IF Out board from the main board has been trapped between the edge of the IF Out PCB and the metal side panel...... the gap is sufficiently small that it has crushed the coax and shorted it out.......
Ho hum. I think it has happened because of also having the 2M module AND freq lock board. This adds extra cables in this point and they were assembled with slightly the wrong routing - I have moved them around now and just need a new cable to complete the job - this one works but intermittently. Thanks for the help and advice everyone.. 73 Roger-GW4WND |
