P3 or K3 oddity

w0mu
On 6m I notice a noise source just above or to the right of my vfo
frequency.  The noise moves with the vfo.  The peak is almost S2. It
traces an nice blue line.

Anyone know what this might be?  I don't see this on any other band.

Mike and Johnny,

In CW mode, set the P3 for the narrowest Span (2 kHz), then use the
cursor to find the difference in frequency between the VFO and the
spurious signal. That will be the clue as to its source.

Try moving IF connector, P3 and K3 side, disconnect and connect and check
presence of spurious signal. I did same problem and fixed changing IF cable
with high quality cable and connectors.

In my experience, the I.F. cable between the K3 and P3 is quite
finicky when it comes to the quality of cable and connectors.  I
have just replaced my two P3 cables with these:
https://www.cablewholesale.com/specs/10x1-01103.php

These cables have a copper braid and aluminum foil shield, the
molded transition from connector to cable looks beefy and solid,
and the connectors fit well.  Prices and shipping are very
reasonable.

Thanks to Hank, W6SX, for pointing out cablewholesale.com as a
good supplier.

Re: P3 or K3 oddity

w0mu
Thanks for the heads up on the BNC cables.  I am not sure where I got
the one I am using.  I will swap out the cable and see if the issue is
still there.
