P3 rubber button

Hi, sorry to ask again, has anybody got a part number for just the rubber
buttons for the P3 pan adaptor. Got a reply from Elecraft (listed below)but
the cost is prohibitive if I have to buy the entire front panel. Richard
was kind enough to answer me promptly but $637.10 is a bit out of the
question for really one rubber insert button which is my requirement. I
have heard of minimum breakdown part supply but for an item of this nature,
I was expecting $15 or so. I know the entire keypad button set for the K3
was only $20 or so from my K3's previous owner so was expecting a similar
pricing. I think it may be a part number that is available and maybe some
confusion on elecrafts side. Does anybody have a individual part number
breakdown of the P3? The rubber button has a slight defect in it and I
just want the unit to look like new which it will with the button replaced.

Sure looks like a misunderstanding to me.. I doubt you can get a single
button cover, they're usually integral to the keypad board. If your P3
is new [first owner] and the button has a defect, I can't believe the
Elecraft warranty wouldn't cover it.

Yes, he may have misunderstood your question. And if it was a
manufacturing defect by all means have it replaced under warranty.

All the buttons on the P3 are part of a single rubber molded key matrix
that also provides the mounting for the LCD display. I'm not sure what
it costs, but a lot less than $637. :=)

To replace the rubber key matrix you first have to un-stick the old one
from the front panel. (The back of the key matrix is sticky, like
tape.) It also involves removing the LCD display and re-installing it
after changing the key matrix, a procedure that is covered in the
Owner's manual. It's a little tricky to get the two flex cables
simultaneously latched in the two connectors, but shouldn't be a problem
if you're reasonably dextrous.

That was not a correct price. He must have thought you were requesting
something else. The rubber keypad is certainly much, much lower in price.

Note that removal of the old keypad and installation of the new one
involves making sure all of the adhesive from the original keypad is
removed from the pcb, and that the button surface contacts on the PC
board are clean and free from contaminants, hand oils etc. We usually
recommend this is done at the factory.

Please email howard(at)elecraft.com for the P3 keypad cost. I'll make
sure I talk to him about this first.

E100349 P3 Switch Array $10.36

Please note that removal of the old keypad and installation of the new one
involves making sure all of the adhesive from the original keypad is
removed from the pcb, and that the button surface contacts on the PC board
are clean and free from contaminants, hand oils etc. If you use acetone to
remove contaminants please be very careful that it does not get on or in
the LCD display.

This is the main reason that I changed from my FTDX-5000 and VL-1000 amp
with several other radios at the time to all Elecraft gear. When you get
started with it hard to stop one reason I now own 10 pieces of it.

It just took me a while to really "Get IT" what others raved about the
Elecraft line of products. It's also nice to hear them remember your name
after you have called several times.

Brenton the main receiver is about the same as my 5000 but the real game
changer is the second receiver. Plus many of the features my K3/100's have
and the KX3 and my pride the K2/100 loaded with the KAT's for all. It just
doesn't get any better for me my only non Elecraft radio is an IC-9100. It
replaced a FT-847 and why I kept it as it's loaded also the only new radio
on the market that comes close it.
